STATEMENT A central theme in my art is the investigation of the material world. My focus is on the history, identity, and future of substances, and on the way their symbolic meaning and people’s relationship to them have changed in different eras. In addition to the metaphoric and artistic dimensions, the conception of matter is important to me through its social and political meanings.
In my works, i often juxtapose contrasting substances perceived as representing different categories, such as hi-tech materials with substances that are organic. By this, i seek to express my experiences of the surrounding environment and culture, which inevitably brings paradoxes and conflicts into my works.
However, just as i consider cultural plurality important intellectually, i have high regard for diversity in the material realm. The continuous loss of diversity in anthropogenic processes and biodiversity is alarming. That is why i also appreciate the diversity of interpretation and the plurality of meanings in my works. Ultimately, thus, the dualism of contrasting substances in my art may be understood as anti-dualistic. Through it, the dichotomy between nature and culture becomes questionable. In my view, we are inseparable parts of nature. In us, the world tells of itself.
